The midfielder had not played since September 2019, when he picked up a hip injury that eventually necessitated surgeries.

He finally recovered sufficiently to play a part for Mark Jackson's 23s in their league-deciding victory over Aston Villa and looked sharp in the first half, throwing himself into the fray and controlling play when he could.

Forshaw faded a little in the second half but managed to play around 80 minutes before coming off, appearing to hold his hamstring. He did appear in good spirits on the bench, however.

Bielsa confirmed today that the former Middlesbrough man has a new problem. The head coach does not yet know when Forshaw will return.

"He picked up a muscular injury in the last game and this will keep him out for a period of time that is yet to be determined," he said.

Leeds United host Manchester United on Sunday at Elland Road. Bielsa expects to be without Rodrigo, while Raphinha is being evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
