Manchester United midfielder Fred has joked that he doesn't want to face Leeds United winger Raphinha this weekend.

The Whites wide man remains a huge doubt for the clash at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon and has been one of the club's standout performers since his arrival in the summer.

Raphinha picked up a thigh injury during the stunning 2-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad two weeks ago and hasn't trained since.

Marcelo Bielsa said the Brazilian would be assessed ahead of kick-off in LS11, with Leeds hoping he may return to play a role against the Red Devils.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's men make the trip across the Pennines to take on their fierce rivals in the Premier League.

Fred, though, hopes that he doesn't have to face his compatriot - someone who he has heard all about.

“Bruno's [Fernandes] been talking about Raphinha ever since he arrived. They played together at Sporting,” Fred told the Manchester United official website.

“He's a great player having an amazing season and a lot of clubs have their eye on him. I met him recently, great guy, excellent player but... I hope he won't be lining up against us!

“I wish him a quick recovery and a lot of success in his career. He's a stand-out star player for Leeds so, of course, it's better for us if he's not on the pitch.

“If he does play, we'll look to mark him carefully and work on our game-plan as best as possible. We'll try to nullify his threat to come out on top in this game.”
