The Premier League and EFL campaigns remain indefinitely suspended due to the ongoing global fight against coronavirus which has the nation on lockdown with strict social distancing measures.

There have consequently been a wide range of suggestions as to how the season should be concluded from waiting to resume action whenever it is safe - however it long it takes - to playing behind closed doors to finishing the season now with current placings declared the end result.

Shaw, though, believes only one option would be fair in the event of the season being unable to be restarted which would mean bad news for Championship front-runners Leeds and runaway Premier Division leaders Liverpool.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are themselves now fifth and only three points off a Champions League place but Shaw says current positions could not be allowed to stand.

“Scrap it and start again. Start it again,” said Shaw during a Combat Corona Twitch FIFA competition.

“It’s got to be. If we can’t carry it on, it’s got to be void.”

Assessing the prospect of playing behind closed doors, Shaw said: "Fans are so important. You realise it even more [now].

“The sport is for fans really. If you don’t have fans, and you don’t play in front of fans, it just doesn’t feel right.

“Especially on matchday, the fans are always amazing and always help the team. Whether it’s home or even away our fans are always brilliant and I feel like they’re always there with us.”
