Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte was spotted gifting a shirt to Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

The Citizens centre-back was at Elland Road to witness the Whites 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the Championship on Saturday as Leeds hit top spot in the division once again.

Goals from Luke Ayling and Patrick Bamford in either half ensured the spoils would leave with the hosts.

Laporte - who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury - was given his debut for La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao by Bielsa in 2012.

The 25-year-old has spoken out in the past about the influence the current United boss has had on his career to date, which helped propel him to a move to the Premier League two years ago.

The Frenchman is the second City player to attend Elland Road in recent months, after full-back Benjamin Mendy made the trip to support countryman and friend Jean-Kevin Augustin following his loan move from RB Leipzig in late January.

Leeds fans understandably joked about the rumour mill going into overdrive, but Laporte later joked to one on social media: "You're doing just perfect without me guys! Enjoy them as much as they deserve."
