Leeds United continued their impressive winning run by despatching Huddersfield Town for the second time this season by the same 2-0 scoreline.

To be honest it could and really should have been double that score as Leeds completely dominated their neighbours from down the M62.

Leeds were into their stride within minutes of the game starting, a cross from ‘Jacky’ Harrison was acrobatically hit into the net by Luke Ayling to register his second goal in as many games. Surely one of the goals of the season.

The second half belonged to Leeds and for the first time in 10 plus games...Patrick Bamford scored a goal! Ben White’s header was saved by the Town keeper but Bamford was on hand to put the ball into the net and how the striker celebrated.

With both Fulham and West Brom dropping points, Leeds stand proudly at the top of the Championship. There are another nine games to go, but it’s a great position to be in and how the Leeds fans in the city centre celebrated after the win.

On to Cardiff!

We’re now at that stage of the season where it’s hard to believe the amount of stuff that seems to be going our way but equally hard not to get carried away.

We know we have to wait patiently and live through the torture of the inevitable ups and downs that the next nine games will bring.

Standing in the Centenary Pavilion before the game we cheered as Fulham first went behind then laboured to a draw with Bristol City thanks to a blatant penalty being missed by the referee.

Once inside Elland Road we then saw a goal of the season contender from Luke Ayling in the opening three minutes meaning our own game was played out without the usual tension and angst.

In fact, so much seems to be going our way that it makes me even more suspicious that there is likely to be some disruption from coronavirus to spoil the end of what could and should be a special season. After 16 years we just want to go up no matter what and that was the attitude that dispensed with Huddersfield so straightforwardly on Saturday.

That was comfortable enough wasn’t it? The beauty of it was that once again Leeds did what they were supposed to do; beat a team that has struggled this season, comfortably and without drama to post a sixth double of the season.

My score prediction before the game was 3-0 and, to be honest, it looked more like a three-nil game to me. One of these days a Jack Harrison curler is going to go in off the post instead of coming back out while he will still be ruing the first half volley he smashed wide of the target.

No matter, another early goal set the tone and Luke Ayling is going to run out of celebrations if he continues to bang them in like that! It was unlucky for Ben White that his towering second-half header was saved but maybe the back post tap-in for Patrick Bamford will spur him on now for his traditional end of season spurt.

With all of our main rivals finding wins hard to come by again the table looks very promising.

Dare to dream folks, dare to dream!

Nine matches to go and what a position we are in.

A comfortable win against Huddersfield whilst both West Brom and Fulham drew against Swansea and Bristol City respectively, means Leeds are top of the league, seven points clear of third place as we enter the business end of the season.

Luke Ayling’s goalscoring instincts came in handy early on just like last weekend, although his sublime volley off the underside of the bar slightly eclipsed the deflected effort at Hull.

Patrick Bamford finally got his name on the scoresheet to end his seven-game goal drought when he tapped in Ben White’s header that was well saved. A huge confidence booster.

The Terriers rarely offered an attacking threat despite beating Charlton 4-0 last time out, which is a big compliment to the way Leeds have applied themselves in the previous five matches.

Five victories and five clean sheets is an admirable record, and the first time we have recorded this feat since 2009 under Simon Grayson’s leadership.

Fingers crossed Kalvin Phillips’ knock that kept him out of the game isn’t too serious, but realistically we probably need five more wins from our remaining nine fixtures, Fulham’s tough run in means they are bound to drop points along the way.

With each week that passes, Leeds United’s wins are getting more and more comprehensive.

Once again, this win against Huddersfield threatened to become a rout, something of a common theme in recent weeks.

At the moment, no side can cope with United’s intensity and determination, and not even a Yorkshire derby could help the Terriers.

Luke Ayling has become an unlikely hero of late, scoring two outstanding early goals in two games to set the tone.

These goals stunned both Hull City and Huddersfield Town and neither side really coped afterwards.

Jack Harrison could have made it two before half-time, while he struck the post again in the second half.

Fans will be delighted for Patrick Bamford who scored for the first time since January, particularly as the run-in approaches.

It almost doesn’t feel like there’s just nine games to go, and that’s the way it should stay. Business as usual.

Spurred on by Fulham’s draw with Bristol City in the lunchtime fixture, United got off to the perfect start with a blockbuster of a goal from Luke Ayling after a great cross from Jack Harrison. Three out of five now for the former Bristol City man.

As usual, the Whites dominated and Ilan Meslier was rarely troubled.

He did catch one between his legs which he then cheekily produced from behind his back. This boy looks like a cool customer!

Town did their best to compete but couldn’t come up with much.

Early in the second half, Ben White sent a powerful header towards the bottom corner. Town keeper Jonas Lossl could only parry the ball to the feet of a grateful Patrick Bamford who duly obliged in front of an ecstatic kop.

Harrison was then extremely unlucky as he rattled the woodwork as United kept plugging away.

Trevoh Chalobah then tested Meslier who spilled the ball but his team-mates were alert and the danger passed.
