Midfielder Henderson missed Liverpool's final four games of last season with a knee issue but the 30-year-old is back firmly on the comeback trail for the newly crowned defending champions.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp says his captain had hoped to feature in Saturday's final pre-season friendly at home to Blackpool but Henderson sat out the Tangerines clash which came one week before Liverpool's season opener against Leeds.

“Obviously Hendo was desperate to play a few minutes but it made no real sense because he had to do an important session for him,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com before Saturday's clash against Blackpool.

“If he would have played, ten minutes or so would have probably been okay. That made no sense so that was not possible but he trained in big parts of this week and will probably join full team training next Tuesday.

“Timing-wise, it's not perfect that he cannot play but can train a few days later fully. But that’s how it is.

“We will see how he develops, (there are) a few days until Leeds."
