The Whites only ensured their top-flight survival on the final day of the 2021-22 season through a 2-1 win at Brentford as relegation rivals Burnley dropped back into the bottom three by losing 2-1 at home to Newcastle United.
Leeds then acted quickly to secure a deal to sign 21-year-old USA international midfielder Brenden Aaronson from RB Salzburg and the Whites have also wrapped up a deal to recruit Aaronson's former Salzburg team mate Rasmus Kristensen for £10m.
Denmark international right back Kristensen and Aaronson will both become Leeds players on July 1 subject to international clearance and this is how a new Leeds best XI could look based on United's summer activity so far.
The 2022-23 Premier League season will begin over the first weekend of August and the fixtures for the new season will be released at 9am on Thursday morning.

. GK - Illan Meslier
Whether Leeds sign another 'keeper as competition and cover for Meslier remains to be seen but the 22-year-old Frenchman is clear first choice and started every single game last season, the only Whites player to do so.

. RB - Rasmus Kristensen
Quite what happens when Luke Ayling returns from knee surgery remains to be seen but new recruit Kristensen looks sure to start the new season as first choice right back and there is always the option of Ayling playing at centre-back. Picture by LUFC.

. CB - Liam Cooper
Whites boss Jesse Marsch is not short of options at centre-back but Cooper is the club captain who impressed upon his return from injury at the end of the campaign. But who partners him?

7. CM - Adam Forshaw
Leeds have been exploring Bayern Munich's Marc Roca as an option to bolster their midfield and the Whites have already signed Brenden Aaronson but he might well start further forward. As things stand, Forshaw, Mateusz Klich, Koch, Lewis Bate and Jamie Shackleton are the other main options.

8. RW - Raphinha
It's very hard to know what will happen with Raphinha this summer amidst the ongoing Barcelona chatter but their financial problems and in any case they won't be the only ones who fancy him. What's for certain is that if Raphinha stays he starts out wide.

9. LW - Jack Harrison
Harrison, Dan James and versatile new recruit Aaronson would all be options to play on the left of midfield and Crysencio Summerville is also waiting in the wings. It's hard to call but perhaps Harrison would net the nod.

10. ACM - Brenden Aaronson
It will be fascinating to see where Aaronson plays but at £25m he will surely be a regular starter. The States star says he can play anywhere across the middle and given the options out wide, perhaps starting in a version of the no 10 role might be the call.

11. ST - Patrick Bamford
Leeds are in the market for another striker which looks a must after last season's lack of goals. More minutes for Joe Gelhardt looks another must but Bamford is the club's main striker when fit and one who will be hoping to make a late charge to the England team for the World Cup.
