Leeds United's new predicted Premier League finishing position after huge boost and blows for rivals

Leeds United have given themselves a huge Premier League boost and there has consequently been a fresh change in where the Whites are now predicted to finish.

Jesse Marsch’s side were rated huge underdogs for Saturday night’s showdown against Liverpool at Anfield which Leeds approached sat second-bottom having gone eight games without a win. The Whites left for Merseyside having amassed just two points from a last possible 24 but an early strike from Rodrigo and 89th-minute goal from Crysencio Summerville sealed a brilliant 2-1 victory that propelled Marsch’s side up four places to 15th place and with a game in hand on all five sides below them.

Leeds are now one point clear of the drop zone which is headed by Leicester City who were beaten 1-0 by visiting Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime. There is then another point back to second-bottom Wolves who drew 1-1 at Brentford at the weekend. Nottingham Forest remain bottom of the pile and another point adrift following a 4-0 hammering at Arsenal for Steve Cooper’s side.

There were also blows for bottom six sides Aston Villa and Southampton at the weekend, Villa blitzed 4-0 at Newcastle United and Southampton losing 1-0 at Crystal Palace. Both sides are now below Leeds on goal difference but having played one game more than the Whites who also have a game in hand on the next four teams above them, all of whom are within three points.

Jesse March’s side face the team directly above them next Saturday afternoon when Bournemouth visit Elland Road. The Cherries are one point ahead of Leeds having lost their last three games. The picture suddenly looks somewhat rosier for the Whites and this is where Leeds are now predicted to finish based on the odds for relegation and prices for the title to determine what is expected to be a breakaway top seven.
