The 22-year-old wishes he was still playing football on a regular basis in front of 36,000 at Elland Road.

He wishes that Leeds United were still marching toward promotion to the Premier League, carrying on the rich vein of form that took them top of the Championship before the coronavirus pandemic forced the suspension of the season.

And he wishes he had scored more goals before the sport came to a juddering halt.

Harrison, who has kept active in fitness terms thanks to the club's daily workout programmes he completes at home, and active on social media showing everyone exactly what it is he's doing to stay fit, is not enjoying the absence of a ball at his feet.

"It's been tough," said the Manchester City loanee.

"I wouldn't say I'm someone who gets bored easily but I always like to have a ball at my feet and be playing football so when I'm injured or during these times it's always hard because I just want to keep playing.

“But we've been getting programmes sent to us from the performance coach at the club so we've had some programmes to follow with running and stuff. It's been tough because I just want to play."

Harrison was a major contributor to the form that put Leeds back in pole position in the Championship.

He might not have scored in 2020 and only have registered one assist since the turn of the year - that an inch-perfect cross for Luke Ayling to smash home a goal of the season contending volley against Huddersfield in Leeds' last game - but he was in electric form. At Hull City he ran himself to a stand-still, created chances and hit the woodwork. Huddersfield too had the frame of the goal to thank for denying him a place on the scoresheet.

The season stopping when it did was, understandably, frustrating for Harrison and his team-mates.

“It's frustrating because not only myself but the team were in good form and with the results we were having and the way we were playing, we were in a good place," he said.

"It's a bit frustrating to bring that to a halt because of everything that's going on in the world right now.

“Personally I would have liked to have had a few more goals before we stopped playing but it's important to look ahead. There's still nine games left and whenever we start again we have to be ready to start up again where we left off. That's going to be important for us as a team."
