The Leeds United interest left at World Cup, when to watch and how as last 16 begins with Whites man bid

The Leeds United interest still remaining at the 2026 World Cup.

Two Leeds United stars saw their World Cup bids ended in the competition’s last 16 - but Whites interest remains as the tournament now reaches its last 32 stage.

Leeds had four players selected for their country’s squads at the World Cup in Gabi Gudmundsson with Sweden, Ao Tanaka with Japan, Noah Okafor with Switzerland and Brenden Aaronson with joint hosts the USA.

All four of them made it through to the competition’s knockout stages but Tanaka then suffered heartache with Japan who suffered a last gasp defeat to Brazil in the last 32 before Gudmundsson’s Sweden side were brushed aside by tournament favourites France.

But Okafor and Aaronson are both into the competition’s last 16 which begins on Saturday evening as former Leeds boss Jesse Marsch’s Canada side take on Morocco in a 6pm kick-off.

Paraguay then play France in a 10pm kick-off on Saturday night before Sunday’s sole match sees Brazil face Norway in a 9pm start.

England then face Mexico at the Azetca in a game which has stayed at a 1am kick-off in the early hours of Monday morning. Later the same day, Spain take on Portugal in an 8pm kick-off.

But United’s two remaining players are then due in action as the last 16 reaches its final day starting with a 1am start for the USA against Belgium in the early hours of Tuesday morning in a game being shown on BBC One.

The day’s second game sees Argentina take on Egypt in a 5pm kick-off before Okafor’s Switzerland side help wrap up the last 16 with their tie against Colombia in a 9pm kick-off that is being shown on ITV1.
