Pundit delivers Burnley and Wolves Premier League take that Leeds United fans will love

Leeds United boosted their bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League with a home win against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Leeds United have an advantage over a number of their Premier League relegation rivals that can ensure Daniel Farke’s side avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

The atmosphere surrounding Elland Road was given a major boost on Wednesday night when the Whites brought an end to a run of four consecutive defeats by claiming an impressive 3-1 win against a Chelsea side currently sitting in the top four of the table.

However, it is matters at the other end of the table that are concerning Whites supporters as their side battle to preserve their top flight status and ensure their Premier League stay is extended beyond a solitary season. The midweek win over Enzo Maresca has boosted the survival bid as goals from Ao Tanaka, Jaka Bijol and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were enough to move Farke’s side three points clear of the bottom three.

Leeds could find themselves on the wrong side of the dotted line once again come Friday morning if relegation rivals West Ham United can secure a win at Manchester United on Thursday night - but there can be no doubt the Whites have regained some confidence with their fully deserved win against Chelsea.

Firepower

For former England defender Conor Coady, Farke’s squad possesses enough ‘firepower’ to avoid the drop and condemn the likes of his former club Wolves and the Whites former Championship title rivals Burnley to another stint in the second tier.

He told BBC Sport: “What I always look at with teams down there [at the bottom of the table] is the firepower they have up top. Those two they have, Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha, are a handful. Compare them to the other teams. West Ham have Callum Wilson but you look at Wolves, Burnley, do they score many goals? Those two up top will score goals [for Leeds]. They are going to be a massive part in how Leeds do this season.”
