Fiorentina interested in signing Leeds United attacker Willy Gnonto
A European side are interested in signing a Leeds United attacker.
Serie A side Fiorentina are interested in signing Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto with just four days left of the summer transfer window.
Gnonto has made 147 appearances for Leeds since joining the club from FC Zurich in September 2022 although the Italian was limited to making just four Premier League starts last season in which he also suffered a calf injury.
Gnonto was then impressing in pre-season this summer, particularly on as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United in Dublin in the right wing back role.
Gnonto, though, suffered a hamstring injury in the contest and has yet to feature since although boss Daniel Farke revealed on Friday that the 22-year-old was set to return to training on Friday ahead of Sunday’s visit of Brentford.
Farke spoke about plans involving Gnonto when discussing his attacking options at Friday’s pre-Brentford press conference but Serie A side are now interested in signing the Whites winger.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported on Saturday morning that Fiorentina were in surprise negotiations with Leeds to sign Gnonto and that negotiations were underway.
He wrote: “Fiorentina are pursuing Wilfred Gnonto, with negotiations underway with Leeds United.
“After stints in Switzerland and England, Wilhelm Gnonto could return to Italy.
“Fiorentina are interested , having entered negotiations with Leeds for the 2003-born player.
“Fiorentina has initiated contact with him as a winger, a position they are exploring.”
The YEP understands that Fiorentina are indeed interested in signing Gnonto but whether anything happens is a different matter.
