Leeds United take in the second part of a quickfire Elland Road trilogy with the Championship visit of Norwich City tonight.

Daniel Farke’s Whites began a run of three games at LS11 within the space of a week via Sunday lunchtime’s league hosting of Preston North End who were eventually seen off in a 2-1 defeat after a 94th-minute Joel Piroe penalty.

The victory moved fourth-placed Leeds back to within just four points of the division’s second automatic promotion place occupied by Southampton but Ipswich Town then moved back above the Saints by a point through Monday night’s 1-1 draw at leaders Leicester City.

Leeds – who are now five points adrift of the division’s second automatic promotion place – will now take on David Wagner’s Norwich side who have climbed up the table to being on the periphery of the play-offs after an improved recent run. Two wins and a draw from the side’s last three games have left Norwich eighth and just two points off the play-offs.

Leeds remain minus the services of Pascal Struijk (groin/adductor), Karl Darlow (dislocated thumb), and also longer term absentee Stuart Dallas (femoral fracture). Willy Gnonto remains a doubt due to a hip flexor issue.

90 + 7: But ref Donohue awards a Leeds free kick as Rutter clears away with Gunn stranded, crowd livid

Norwich free kick

Leeds putting a very good run together now, missed loads of chances to add to Bamford's goal and nervy moments in added time but a clean sheet proves crucial and Rodon is integral to that. Ampadu also very good. Leeds will go second if they win at Bristol City, will have played two more games but piles the pressure on Ipswich and Saints, every chance they can do this.

David Wagner reaction

"We should split the summary into two different things, one is the result - frustrating yes - and the other the performance. We gave Leeds a real game, games like this will be decided by fine margins. We conceded a goal we should defend much better and had a big chance with Gabriel Sara and second half we're not ruthless. This is one of the big reasons why we lost. Congratulations to Leeds, top team, super offensive individuals. I think we kept them quite calm. Their opportunities second half were produced when we were not accurate on the ball. We really pinned them in the final third without having a final punch in the box. We looked good and we keep going. Performance I'm absolutely fine with. What annoys me more was the situations before the goal, situations where we have to show more composure on the ball, show more aggression in 50:50 battles. We said two things we'd have to be top, ball possession and the other is being nasty and aggressive in 50:50 situations. The players have done it fantastic for long periods but before the goal unfortunately not. We'll learn from it. Leeds away from home is never easy, especially this season with their home record, but we gave them a game. Small margins decide, today they went against us."
