Leeds United v Huddersfield Town: Terrriers likely to offer more bite than toothless Tigers - YEP Jury

After Leeds United's crushing victory over Hull City last week our fans' panel are expecting a much tighter encounter against Huddersfield Town tomorrow.

Tomorrow brings the Terriers to Elland Road who will be, without doubt, a different proposition to the team Leeds beat comfortably, after a shaky start, at Huddersfield earlier in the season.

The 2-0 win was part of the impressive run that United went on in November and December.

A different ‘broom’ has come in, moved players in and out of the club and, despite their lowly position, they will be very difficult to beat.

Danny Cowley has restored some pride in the blue-and-white-striped shirts and, last weekend, they walloped Charlton 4-0.

This game worries me more than the other nine; Town look a useful unit now with a pretty solid back line and players in midfield and attack that could test Leeds all afternoon.

That said, if, like Hull City, United can get an early goal they, hopefully, can carry on their unbeaten run.

Leeds by the odd goal in three, but it might be another nervy affair, boys and girls!

There’s the chance to make it a hat-trick of Yorkshire derby wins tomorrow just as we did at the end of 2019.

It’s amazing that things have turned around so quickly with a handful of good results and contrastingly poor performances from our near rivals in the Championship table.

In that amazement there’s a warning that things can flip the other way just as quickly and there’ll be few teams wishing to play a part in that possibility more than Huddersfield Town and a set of fans that seem to dislike Leeds United more than they like their own club.

Optimism is flooding through the fanbase as we broke free from the narrow wins and put Hull City to the sword last week. It’s very likely to be the same team that starts the game but there’s now the option to throw on Tyler Roberts up front if Patrick Bamford continues to struggle in front of goal.

I’m expecting United to take the win but it certainly won’t be easy and we should be ready for a tougher test than last week for sure.

Prediction: Leeds United 2 Huddersfield Town 1.

DAVID WATKINS

Leeds United go into their 37th Championship game second in the table with four wins from five including a stonking 4-0 victory over Hull City last week.

That’s an exact replica of last season when we also went into the 37th game with four wins from five including a 4-0 thumping of West Brom and, then as now, we sat second in the table.

We won that 37th game 3-0 at Reading but then took only 10 more points from our final nine games. The job is far from complete yet!

The difference this season is we are dominating every game and, if we can only repeat the sort of finishing we saw from Tyler Roberts at Hull, then surely this time we will get the job done.

Whether Marcelo Bielsa will consider it worth swapping Roberts for the out-of-luck Patrick Bamford on the basis of one half-hour cameo from the Welshman, who knows?

Predicting Leeds results is like playing the lottery so, this time, I’ve chosen the result we got last season in our 37th game.

Prediction: Leeds United 3 Huddersfield Town 0.

As Leeds head into another Yorkshire derby, the commentators are running out of words to describe this 2019/20 United side.

After the demolition of Hull City last weekend, in what we thought might have been a tricky game, the Terriers are the next team in Marcelo Bielsa’s sights.

Huddersfield have won their last two games and will, undoubtedly, put up more of a fight than the Tigers did last week. They always do.

Town’s recent wins have all come at home, though, with their last away victory coming at, you guessed it, Hull.

Saturday’s visitors will have to cope without a host of key players. But, at the moment, Leeds don’t mind who they come up against.

Last week’s man of the match, Jack Harrison, will be hoping for another good game, while Helder Costa is looking better and better. These are the games that have the potential to derail a season, and boy would Huddersfield love that.

Let’s hope it’s another routine win.

Prediction: Leeds United 2 Huddersfield Town 1.

JACOB STARR

If everything goes our way this weekend, Leeds could be top of the league and eight points clear of third place. I’m ever the optimist.

A Yorkshire derby awaits us tomorrow with the visit of Huddersfield Town, who also head into the game on the back of a 4-0 win. Danny Cowley’s men thumped Charlton last weekend to put daylight between themselves and the bottom three.

The Whites have been victorious in the last four though, without conceding a single goal.

So, the confidence around the place at the minute is obviously sky high, but the Terriers will attempt to make it tough.

Tyler Roberts will be pushing Patrick Bamford for a starting place after netting a brace late on in the win over Hull.

But, no doubt, Marcelo Bielsa will stick to his guns as Bamford is contributing so much to the side despite struggling in front of goal.

As long as we concentrate on ourselves and do the business, that’s all that matters.

The only team that can stop us is Leeds United.

Fulham, meanwhile, travel to Bristol City in the early kick off so here’s hoping Lee Johnson does us a favour, whilst narrow league leaders, West Brom, head to Swansea. Neither is straightforward.

Prediction: Leeds United 2 Huddersfield Town 0.

MIKE GILL

The comprehensive drubbing of Hull City was one of United’s best performances of the current season when all the promise and potential of the side became reality.

This weekend, however, the Whites welcome their nearest neighbours to LS11. Since the appointment of Danny Cowley in the autumn, Huddersfield Town have been moved from intensive care to the normal part of the hospital but, like all recovering patients, they are having their ups and downs.

After losing their away game at Swansea they have chalked up wins at home against unpredictable Bristol City and struggling Charlton.

Back in December, United beat Town 2-0 but not before being thoroughly tested in the first half.

The Whites should be full of confidence after their recent exploits but the Terriers will present a much sterner challenge than their recent opponents.

Confidence is a fragile but beautiful thing and United should currently be bursting with it.

Over-confidence is a different matter entirely but we have enough ‘old heads’ in the side to stay grounded.

Prediction: Leeds United 2 Huddersfield Town 1.
