Rodrigo was due to once again start from the bench but Hernandez pulled up with a groin strain in the warm ups with Rodrigo taking his place in the side and Mateusz Bogusz replacing Rodrigo on the bench.
Captain Liam Cooper also returns from a minor calf problem to make his first start of the new Premier League season.
Cooper was forced to miss last weekend's opener at Liverpool after failing a fitness test to assess the problem picked up whilst on international duty with Scotland.
Pascal Struijk took Cooper's place at centre-back alongside new recruit Robin Koch but Cooper now returns to the fold for as Struijk drops to the bench for what is United's first Premier League home game for over 16 years.
Record signing Rodrigo is again on the bench with Patrick Bamford starting upfront while Adam Forshaw remains out as he continues his recovery from hip surgery.
There are two changes on the Whites bench with Struijk taking the place of young defender Oliver Casey who drops off while Elia Caprile is named as the back-up shotstopper instead of Kiko Casilla who is mising.
Fulham's Serbian international striker and last season's Championship top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic also makes his first league start of the season and is captain having only been introduced as a second-half substitute in last weekend's 3-0 defeat at home to Arsenal on the back of just two Cottagers training sessions after international duty.
Kenny Tete and keeper Alphonse Areola also make their Premier League debuts whilst club captain and former Leeds youngster Tom Cairney drops to the bench along with Neeskans Kebano and Tim Ream.
There has also been a change among the officials with Kevin Friend now becoming referee and stepping up from fourth official with Anthony Taylor delayed due to traffic on the M62.
