After Stoke City were held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace earlier this week the Whites' promotion in the category one academy ranks was all but confirmed - with the Potters needing to win all of their games and hope for a 20-goal swing.

Leeds, though, travel to face Villa this evening knowing a draw or victory from their final three outings would seal a spot in Division One next term.

Welcome to tonight’s live Under-23s blog.

Leeds United are on the cusp of securing the Premier League 2 Division Two title and need just a single point to be crowned champions and earn promotion.

United have three games to do it, with tonight representing their first opportunity to do so following Stoke City’s draw at Crystal Palace on Monday.

We’ll have live updates throughout this evening.

Tonight’s title scenario

Mark Jackson’s development side are just a point away from being officially crowned Premier League 2 Division Two champions.

After Stoke City were held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace earlier this week the Whites’ promotion was all but confirmed - with the Potters now needing to win all of their remaining four games and hope for a 20-goal swing.

Leeds, though, travel to face Villa this evening knowing a draw or victory from their final three outings would seal a spot in Division One next term.

Forshaw set for competitive comeback

Midfielder Adam Forshaw is set to make his long-awaited competitive comeback after nearly 18 months out with a complex hip injury tonight.

Marcelo Bielsa confirmed that the 29-year-old would feature for Leeds in the Midlands in the next phase of his rehab.

Forshaw came through friendly minutes against York at the weekend but will return to competitive action of the first time since September 2019.

Mark Jackson’s view ahead of kick-off

“We’re trying to normalise it as much as possible, we want it to be a normal game and like we prepare for every game, to go out and get the three points,” boss Jackson said ahead of kick-off.

“There’s a lot of talk on the outside but in our camp and within our group, we’re trying to normalise it and make it just like a normal game where we are prepared to go and win.

“The lads are fully focused and looking forward to it.

“Of course there will be that little bit of buzz about it because the lads know they are within touching distance now of securing a title.

“We’re under no illusions, this is going to be a tough game. We beat them earlier on in the season and they will want to get one over on us, to stop us achieving our goal.

“They are still fighting for the play-offs as well, so it’s an important game for them. I expect a really, really tough contest from our point of view but the lads have prepared well.

“We know how we can hurt them, we know the dangers they pose to us, so we’re fully prepared for it.”
