Leeds United’s Under-21 side could be crowned Premier League 2 Division 2 champions with a win over Middlesbrough this afternoon

The young Whites contest their penultimate game of the season today and could see the title and automatic promotion all wrapped up with a game to spare if they secure victory.

Leeds’ youngsters are guaranteed a play-off berth but will be eyeing first place having held top spot for the majority of the season. Due to fixture scheduling, Leeds come into this one in second place, after Nottingham Forest won on Friday night. Forest, however, have played all of their regular season matches and finish the campaign on 41 points, just two ahead of Leeds who have two matches remaining.

Today also sees fellow title challengers Southampton B in action in what will be their final game of the season. They take on Norwich City at 2pm. Should Leeds win and better Southampton’s result, they will be automatically promoted and lift the PL2 Div 2 title.

Leeds U21s 3-1 Boro U21s LIVE

59’ James Debayo replaces Morten Spencer for Leeds

ARCHIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE GOOOOOOALLLLLLL 2-1

51’ Tawiah replaces Myers-Smith for the visitors.

48’ Better from Leeds who play out of trouble inside their own half with some neat combinations. Sonny Perkins takes a whack in the process but carries on with the game, wagging his finger in the face of the Boro man who caught him late.

McGurk’s cross at the end of the move is picked out by the Boro goalkeeper.

46' Second half underway. No changes at the break.

Almost the last kick of the half sees Leeds equalise. Home side dominated the ball but chances harder to come by. Eases some pressure ahead of a big second 45. Southampton 3-0 up and looking comfortable.

First half showing probably not enough to win this game, going to need something extra.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOALLL! 1-1 Own goal

39’ Van den Heuvel saves relatively easily from Sivi’s shot.

36' Second balls just not falling for #LUFC this half. Boro picking up loose passes all over the park and drawing fouls well, too, to break up the game. A physical, scrappy game in places. 0-1.

Forward’s challenge, we’ll call it

29' Charlie Allen into the book for a late tackle on Patterson-Powell who'd just turned on the speed down the left. Boro winger went flying.
