Leeds United stance on Shea Charles made clear to Southampton after latest bid for transfer target
Leeds United have seen transfer bids for the northern Ireland international rejected.
Leeds United have drawn a line in the sand over this summer's Shea Charles transfer saga and made their stance clear to Southampton.
The Whites twice made bids for the Northern Ireland international earlier in this summer window after identifying him as a player who could contribute to Daniel Farke's midfield in the Premier League. Southampton rejected both bids, with a national newspaper promptly reporting that news on both occasions.
Subsequent reports have emerged to suggest that Crystal Palace and Fulham have shown interest or begun to 'prepare' bids for the 23-year-old. Saints are thought to have set their stall out to earn as much as £30m from the potential sale of a midfielder who started 21 times in the Championship last season and already has more than 100 second tier games under his belt.
The YEP understands that Leeds' latest bid in recent days will be their best and final offer to Southampton for the player. Saints are understood to be holding out for a fee closer to their initial valuation but while Leeds remain open to revisit the situation if Southampton's stance changes, the Whites will hold firm on their most recent offer.
Charles has 35 caps for his country and last season scored goals against Arsenal and Liverpool in cup competitions. He was also on the scoresheet in Saints' play-off semi-final win over Middlesbrough, before Spygate saw the Saints denied a place in the Wembley final.
