Leeds United transfer news LIVE: Sept 7

Last updated: Sunday, 06 September, 2020, 21:38

  • Transfer window closes on October 5.
  • Whites start new Premier League season next Saturday at champions Liverpool.

The Mail are reporting that Leeds are closing in on the signing of Dinamo Zagreb centre back Josko Gvardiol, for a fee of around £17.6m according to their reports. The six-foot-one defender will not turn 19 until January and he has already reportedly been watched by Manchester City and Bayern Munich. Capped for Croatia’s under-21s, Gvardiol can also play at left back. The Mail are also reporting that United are still in talks to sign Udinese’s Argentina international attacking midfielder Rodrigo de Paul. Barcelona midfielder Rafinha is another name mentioned - as is  Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville who is at Feyenoord.

Carabao Cup draw details

The draw for the second round of the Carabao Cup will take place this afternoon after the first round clash between Brentford and Wycombe (12 noon kick-off). Leeds are ball no 12 in the North section. Amongst others, United could be drawn against Harrogate Town after Town’s epic victory against Tranmere Rovers on penalties yesterday. Everton, Newcastle, Sheffield United are other potential juicy ones. The Premier League sides in Europe enter the competition in round three - the draw for which will also take place this afternoon.

Praise for Kavlin Phillips from Danny Murphy...

Writing in The Mail, Murphy said of Phillips: "I played at the base of midfield for a good part of my career so I appreciate the job he does for Leeds protecting the defence but then having the vision to start attacks going the other way. What I like about Phillips is his ability to sense danger so he can react and intervene before his side are under pressure. Not everyone asked to play holding midfield has that.”

More on the Rafinha links

Sunday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Leeds have been offered Barcelona’s Brazilian international midfielder Rafinha but with Barcelona wanting around 16m euros. Rafinha and new Whites recruit Rodrigo are reportedly cousins but Mundo Deportivo suggests that the cost of the would-be deal for Leeds for Rafinha is forcing Barcelona to look elsewhere if wanting to offload the 27-year-old Brazilian who spent last season on loan at Celta Vigo.

It’s been some journey for captain Coops....
