"Back" - New Leeds United signing on club's aim for new Premier League season and statement of intent
Leeds United’s second signing of the summer Tarik Muharemovic has been told about the club’s ambition ahead of a second season back in the Premier League.
Leeds United new boy Tarik Muharemovic has quickly made a strong statement of intent in reflecting on his new club’s ambitions for the 2026-27 Premier League campaign.
Bosnia and Herzegovina international centre-back Muharemovic was unveiled as United’s second signing of the summer on Friday, the 23-year-old joining the Whites from Serie A side Sassuolo for £34m on a four-year deal.
Like Leeds, Sassuolo faced a first year back in their country’s top division last season as newly-promoted Serie B champions and Muharemovic helped the club to a very respectable 11th-placed finish, just ten points behind Atalanta in Serie A’s final European qualification place.
Leeds, meanwhile, who were also back in the top division as second tier champions, sealed their Premier League status with thee games to go en route to a 14th-placed finish.
Muharemovic readily admits he is now stepping up to the best level of football on offer but the defender hopes his experience with Sassuolo will stand him in good stead ahead of the club ambition to get Leeds “back where they belong”.
Speaking to LUTV, Muharemovic was asked if people had talked to him about the ambition for the forthcoming season.
"Of course,” said the defender.
"I learned directly what the club's ambitions are and the club told me what the ambitions are.
"We want to get the club back to where it belongs to.
"The best football you can play is in the Premier League. I know how physical it is, how fast a game can go and you never know who is going to win a game."
Pressed on being used to pressure of surviving in the top flight after Sassuolo’s first season back in Premier League, the defender said: "Yes, I love pressure, I need pressure.
"We had this in Sassuolo as well, coming back in Serie A, to stay in the league and even to fight for Europe was good.
“I just can’t wait to see the whole team.”
