As our famous song goes, we have had ups and downs over the course of the last 12 months and through it all together, we have faced it together, as a city, as a team, as one.

We have revelled in celebration and consoled in defeat and watched, enchanted, as you orchestrated your magic on 105 meters of special turf in Beeston, Leeds.

We held our breath as the team played with the determination and intensity we all felt inside.

“Bielsaball” is football played in the way every fan hopes their team will play; with energy, precision and courage. We hope that you can feel our appreciation for all your efforts and those of your staff.

Your passion, humility and continued dedication has inspired every one of us that have ever loved the white, yellow and blue of Leeds United. As long as you’re here, we know that we will remain inspired.

This is a city that has been dreaming for 16 years, unified in hope that one day soon we would earn back our place in the top tier of English football. Since our departure from the Premier League, many of us who were then just boys and girls have grown into adults, welcomed children of our own and lost some of those who would have dearly loved to be with us in this moment, including our Jack, our Trevor and our Norman.

In life, the people of Leeds need three things; family, health and a little bit of joy. You have brought this city pure joy, pure happiness, it is a wonderful feeling that Leeds will never forget. Gracias Marcelo, a thousand times.

As our city celebrates and in recognition of your achievements, we make this request to Leeds City Council that they award you the honour of the Freedom of the City of Leeds.

Feliz Cumpleaños, Marching on Together.

In thanks and celebration,

The Leeds United Supporters’ Trust
