Leeds had three players representing the Whites at the Qatar World Cup but Rasmus Kristensen failed to get out of the group stages with Denmark whilst Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson suffered a valiant round of 16 exit with the USA. The USA were knocked out by the Netherlands on December 3, a full 25 days before United's return to Premier League action against Manchester City on Wednesday, December 28.

City, though, had a whopping 16 players heading to Qatar and nine are still involved although the scale of that involvement for eight of those players will be decided today. Julian Alvarez is already through to the semi-finals with Argentina which means the striker will be involved until at least December 17 given the presence of a third place play-off match, even if the South American side are beaten in their last four clash against Croatia.

That would leave a little over a one week turnaround before the trip to Elland Road which comes just seven days after the World Cup final on December 18. Another five City players are part of the England squad who face France in the quarter-finals tonight whilst three more are with Portugal who take on Morocco in the last for this afternoon. Kyle Walker, John Stones, Kalvin Phillips, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish are all with City whilst Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva are with Portugal.
