Rob Edwards cites Leeds United example after Wolves full-time anger amid VAR complaint
Rob Edwards saw his Championship-bound Wolves side brushed aside 3-0 by Leeds United at Elland Road.
Rob Edwards sees Leeds United as proof that Wolves can come back from an almost certain relegation to the Championship.
A 3-0 defeat at Elland Road left Wolves on the verge of the drop, which can be confirmed by results elsewhere in the next few days.
Edwards’ side conceded twice in two first half minutes and were unable to find a breakthrough to make it a nervier finish at a jubilant Elland Road.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin's injury time penalty made it more comfortable for Leeds, though Edwards took issue with the award of the spot-kick.
His ire was initially directed at how his side defended as they conceded twice in quick succession early on.
James Justin's bicycle kick was followed almost immediately by Noah Okafor's fine finish.
"It really angers me, frustrates me and the lads, staff," said Edwards. "We've shot ourselves in the foot, again. We are where we are because of too many individual mistakes.
“It can happen. We can break that down, it's not a first goal to concede. The second we give it away, don't close quick enough. Poor to concede in that manner. Very similar to last week, to Anfield where it happened. Those moments away from home you just can't do it."
Though he made no bones about the fact that Leeds were better in the game's most important moments, Edwards felt the scoreline didn't do his side justice.
He was particularly aggrieved that the third goal came from a challenge he believed not to be a foul.
“It's not a penalty, Calvert-Lewin has been clever”
"The result doesn't look good," he said. "There's one minute where two goals have gone in, they were better in the big moments Leeds.
“It's not a penalty, Calvert-Lewin has been clever and good and kicked the back of Hugo's leg and gone down. I don't know how VAR has not overturned it.
“Darlow has had to make a big save, we've had a huge chance. The overall performance was not terrible but the scoreline looks bad. We've got to take some momentum forward."
At full-time the away supporters showed their anger with their side, who are 15 points from safety with five games remaining.
Edwards understood the reaction, but he believes playing at Elland Road and seeing where Leeds find themselves right now is an example of how clubs can bounce back from the drop.
"Completely understand the frustration and accept it, the fans should be angry," he said. "I'll never say anything other than that, they have the right to vent and show their anger. No problem with me, I'm as angry as they are.
“It's been a long time coming, our situation has been difficult this season and even seasons before. All I can do is promise we're working extremely hard.
"It's apt we're here at Leeds, they've been through their difficulties as well and fairly recently. But you can see the way they've responded, everyone right behind it, in a cup semi-final as well. So it can be done."
