Leeds United transfer news: Whites plot ambitious raid for £36m man, PL goalkeeper linked with Elland Road switch

Leeds United have emerged as contenders to sign Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero.

That's according to 90min, who suggest that the Whites have entered the race to snap up the Argentine hitman when he becomes a free agent this summer.

The 32-year-old confirmed recently that he is set to leave the Etihad upon the expiration of his current deal at the end of the season, sparking widespread speculation over where is next destination could be.

The report suggests that Leeds have been left underwhelmed by record signing Rodrigo since he arrived at Elland Road last year, and could look to cash-in on the Spanish international in the coming months, although it is worth pointing out that the player himself has dismissed talk of a potential summer exit.

Nonetheless, 90min claim that should the 30-year-old leave, Marcelo Bielsa will seek attacking reinforcements, and could turn to compatriot Aguero.

The Whites are not the only Premier League club keeping tabs on the striker, however, with West Ham, Arsenal, and Tottenham also said to be keen.

Aguero has been one of the most prolific forwards in the top flight since arriving in Manchester from Atletico Madrid for a fee of around £36 million ten years ago.

His tally of 181 Premier League strikes and counting puts him fourth in the competition’s all-time leading goal-scorer list, and he has helped City to four league titles during his time with the club.

Even this season, when he has been waylaid by injuries and generally absent from the side, he has averaged a goal every 172 minutes.

To contextualise that figure, Patrick Bamford has one every 179 minutes.

Elsewhere, Leeds are said to be interested in signing West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

The 28-year-old has been in fine form this season, despite his side's relegation woes, and recently received a first ever call-up for England.

With the Baggies facing an uphill battle to beat the drop, it is understood that they will be willing to listen to sensible offers for the stopper.

The Express and Star name Leeds as one of the clubs who could be keen Johnstone.

Football Insider reported recently that the Whites could look to offload Kiko Casilla this summer, opening the door for a new goalkeeper arriving.
