A disappointing first half ended goalless and the complexion of the game then changed dramatically in the 53rd minute when Whites keeper Illan Meslier was shown a straight red card. Preston went ahead four minutes later as Alan Browne headed home Liam Millar’s cross but the ten men of Leeds rallied and drew level in the 83rd minute through a Pascal Struijk penalty which was awarded after Dan James was fouled. Preston, though, then served up one final sting in the tail by bagging an 89th minute winner through Millar who was a constant menace down the left flank. Leeds United writer Lee Sobot hands out the scores from an afternoon to forget at Deepdale.

6 - A similar sort of story to Ampadu but excelled with one brilliant piece of defending to get Gray out of trouble in the first half. Photo: Bruce Rollinson
8. Crysencio Summerville
6 - Nowhere near his brilliant best but still carried a threat at times and Leeds failed to make the most of some good deliveries for him. Subbed after the break on a day to forget. Photo: Bruce Rollinson
9. Dan James
6 - Wasteful at times but kept at it and won the penalty that looked to win a point. Otherwise, just one of those days where end product was lacking. Photo: Ben Roberts Photo

4 - A really poor first half in which nothing he attempted came off, including a very weak attempted finish when well placed in the middle of the box. No surprise to see him sacrificed after Meslier's red card. Photo: Michael Regan
11. Georginio Rutter
6 - A hard one to mark on a frustrating afternoon for the attacker but he was the one to really take the game to Preston when Leeds went down to ten men. Photo: Ben Roberts Photo

6 - His first task was to pick the ball out of the net. That aside, a bit of a mixed bag in replacing Meslier for his Leeds league debut. Photo: Ben Roberts Photo
