Leeds United topple Yeovil Town 4-0 at Elland Road in League One as Jermaine Beckford scores a hat-trick

What happened?

Jermaine Beckford scored his third hat-trick of the season to take his tally to 21 as Leeds brushed Yeovil aside at Elland Road.

The Whites were looking for a sixth successive win on home soil and their leading marksmen was on top form in LS11 to lift the club into fifth position in League One.

Beckford opened the scoring after 26 minutes as he got on the end of a deflected through ball from left-back Ben Parker.

Neil Kilkenny then struck from distance to add a second before turning provider as he played in United's number nine.

Beckford completed his hat-trick and sealed the match ball seven minutes later, making light work of the visiting defence to burst through and produce a lovely chipped finish.

Luciano Becchio missed a late penalty for Leeds but the job was already done by Simon Grayson's side as the promotion charge began.

Beckford went on to score 34 goals in all competitions in the 2008-09 season - the highest in the country - but Leeds saw their campaign end with defeat to Millwall in the play-offs.
