Phillips tore ligaments in his shoulder after falling awkwardly during United's 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves on October 19 with Leeds then announcing that the 24-year-old could be facing up to six weeks out.

Whites head coach Marcelo Bielsa then said the period that Phillips would be out for was "undefined" and that the midfielder could be facing a shorter or longer spell on the sidelines than six weeks out.

But speaking to the Leeds That podcast, Phillips said his injury was healing with the midfielder eyeing a slightly earlier return than initially envisaged.

"It's all right, it's getting better," said Phillips.

"I've been injured for I think about a week now so hopefully I am aiming for three to four weeks but obviously if it's not ready then I will have to wait a little bit longer than that."

Reflecting on the incident that led to the injury - and what he can and can't do whilst continuing to recover - Phillips explained: "I just went over in a tackle and landed on my shoulder and tore a few ligaments in my shoulder.

"I am just trying to get it better by not really doing anything with my arms and that.

"I can still play FIFA and Call Of Duty. That's fine."

Cheering on Leeds in Friday night's win at Aston Villa though was a different story, especially as Patrick Bamford completed a hat-trick in a hugely impressive 3-0 victory.

"I have been speaking to Jack Grealish and Tyrone Mings at England and I was just dying to beat them," said Phillips.

"I put it up on my story and stuff when Pat scored, I was absolutely buzzing.

"I was screaming and punching the air and then I ended up hurting my shoulder even more. It was Pat's fault!"
