Phillips had to be substituted with a knee problem in the first-half of United's 1-0 win at home to the Royals last month and the midfielder then missed the subsequent midweek 1-0 triumph at Middlesbrough.

Phillips then returned to the side to play the full 90 minutes of last weekend's 4-0 win at Hull City but the midfielder again misses the clash against the Terriers as a precaution.

The knee injury is not serious and Phillips is expected to return for next weekend's clash at Cardiff City.

Gaetano Berardi instead comes into the side for the only change made by Whites head coach Marcelo Bielsa with Ben White likely to move up from centre-back into the holding midfield role.

Both Berardi and Pablo Hernandez are making their 150th appearances for the Whites.

French 'keeper Illan Meslier also makes his Whites home debut in goal with Kiko Casilla serving the second game of an eight-match ban handed to the Spaniard for alleged racist comments made to striker Jonathan Leko in the 1-0 loss at Charlton Athletic at the end of September.

Jean-Kevin Augustin misses the clash with a hamstring problem while Adam Forshaw is out for the season following surgery to correct a hip injury.

There are two changes on the Whites bench with Oliver Casey and Pascal Struijk taking the places of Berardi and also Jordan Stevens who misses out.

Winger Ian Poveda, a January recruit from Manchester City, is also once again not involved.

Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley has named an unchanged side with Town's only change coming on the bench as Andy King replaces Collin Quaner.
