'Lost my head', 'No faith' - Chris Sutton & Alan Shearer agree on Leeds United vs Manchester United prediction
The predictions are in ahead of Leeds United’s Premier League meeting with Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday.
Chris Sutton has backed Leeds United to enjoy a historic thrashing of old rivals Manchester United on Sunday.
The Whites lost 2-1 at Arsenal last time out but produced another strong performance, going ahead and causing the league champions plenty of problems. Prior to that defeat, Daniel Farke’s side were five unbeaten in the top-flight and have competed against top opponents like Brighton and Brentford.
Having won a Premier League match at Old Trafford for the first time since 1981 last season, Leeds will now look to record consecutive victories over Manchester United for the first time in 54 years. And Sutton not only expects them to achieve that feat, he’s predicted an Elland Road rout.

In his predictions column for BBC Sport, Sutton wrote: “While some Manchester United fans might agree with what Martinez said, there is a time and a place to do it and it felt like a really poor error of judgement. It just shows what kind of state Manchester United are in at the moment, though.
“Don't forget that Spurs played them off the park early on in that game. Maybe they will up their game and find a way to win this time because they are getting desperate - but I don't see it. I think Leeds will beat them, and beat them convincingly.
“So far this season I have backed Manchester United most weeks but I have had enough of that. I must have lost my head to stick with them so long - not any more. Sutton's prediction: 5-0.”
While a 5-0 thrashing would represent one of Elland Road’s best ever occasions, many inside the ground on Sunday would take a win however it comes. Leeds will not be complacent despite their visitor’s issues, with Manchester United’s individual quality clear.
The sides drew 1-1 in this fixture last season, Matheus Cunha instantly cancelling out a Brenden Aaronson opener. Former striker Alan Shearer expects Leeds to improve on that result, but perhaps not in such emphatic fashion.
“Elland Road will be absolutely bouncing,” he told Betfair. “They’re up against it, Man United, and they’re up against this Leeds team who are going to make it very difficult. They were brilliant at Arsenal last week. I’ve got no faith or confidence in Man United.
“Leeds went 1-0 up against Arsenal and they missed a couple of chances before that, so they deservedly took the lead. It was only then when Arsenal made the changes that they lost the game. So, I think Leeds will go into this with more belief and confidence, and they’ll know the pressure that Man United are under. I think they’ll feed off that.
“I think Man United players are still playing for Michael Carrick. I think their reaction in Madrid on Tuesday night and also Martinez’s comments backed up that the players like Michael Carrick, but they’ve got to go out and get a result for him desperately because the pressure will be hugely on if Leeds beat them. Unfortunately for Michael, I think Leeds will win this weekend.”
