Leeds United star 'could have his head turned' as major transfer claim made
The latest transfer talk from Leeds United as the Whites prepare for the January transfer window.
Leeds United could reportedly look to raise funds to add ‘new life in their attack’ by selling one of their Championship title winners.
The Whites have struggled to find rhythm in the final third during the opening three months of the Premier League season with summer signings Lukas Nmecha, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have scored a combined five goals between them during the opening 12 games of the season. There has been speculation suggesting moves for a winger and an attacking midfielder could take place during the January transfer window and the Whites have once again been linked with a move for Wales international Harry Wilson as his contract with Fulham heads into its final six months in the new year.
There has also been a suggestion Leeds could authorise the sale of Italy international Wilfried Gnonto to free up funds to spend in January after a number of Italian clubs have been linked with a move for the forward over the last 12 months. Transfer journalist Dean Jones has stated the Whites will sell Gnonto ‘at the right price’ and will look to reinvest the funds raised to buy a striker.
He told TEAMtalk: “This is going to be a transfer window of opportunism and there are clubs who have been tracking Gnonto, wondering if he is finally going to leave. I expect someone to try their luck, and I have a feeling the player will have his head turned if a big enough side comes in for him.
“Leeds would sell him at the right price, I’m pretty sure of that. I get the feeling he’s a player they would now sell and then reinvest because they really are looking for some new life in their attack. Primarily that would be in the shape of a striker, but I wouldn’t rule out any player with attacking nous at this point because the club’s hierarchy know they have left the team short of options up top.”
