Five-year-old Whites fan Daniel Auton wrote to the Premier League club, who sent White to Elland Road on loan for the season, offering the contents of his piggy bank in exchange for the permanent signing of his favourite player.

White was asked about the letter, which went viral after Brighton tweeted it along with their response, rejecting the offer of £15.07, on talkSPORT this morning.“I didn’t really expect it to go this big to be fair," said White.

“I think he put a bit too much money in.

“It’s really nice to feel that the fans appreciate the hard work I’ve put in. Being wanted is a really nice feeling.

“I got in contact with [Daniel’s] family yesterday, and said once the lockdown is over I’ll pop in and see him.”

White has had a stellar season in defence for Marcelo Bielsa's side, alongside the more experienced Liam Cooper.

Together they have played a huge part in giving Leeds the best defensive record in the Championship.

Just 30 goals were scored against United in the 37 games they played before the coronavirus lockdown.

White, the subject of interest from top half sides in the Premier League thanks to his form, is enjoying his time at Leeds, particularly the experience of playing in front of a packed Elland Road.

"It's been really good, it's gone really well so far and hopefully we can get it over the line and do the job," he said.

"I played against Leeds before at Elland Road and it was unbelievable then and it was only half full. Playing there week and week out is so different to what I've done before.

"It's unbelievable, the passion and support we get every week is not like anything I've come across before."
