Goals from Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum consigned Alioski and his national team to a third straight Group C defeat.

In front of 12,000 at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, North Macedonia played a full part in the game, which was Goran Pandev's 122nd and final appearance for his country.

The visitors had two goals chalked off for offside, both Ivan Trichkovski and Darko Churlinov having their celebrations cut short, while Aleksandar Trajkovski smashed the ball against the woodwork.

Alioski put a huge amount of energy into his performance on the left and delivered a number of clever passes and crosses, but was unable to create the magic they needed to spoil the home side's clean sheet.

Frank de Boer's men had already won the group with a game to spare thanks to their wins over Ukraine and Austria.
