United's quest to seal Premier League football has been on hold since the second week of March due to the country's battle against coronavirus which has the nation on lockdown with strict social distancing measures until at least May 7.

Leeds are top of the Championship and hold a seven-point cushion in the division's automatic promotion places with nine games left.

Both the Premier League and EFL have continually stated their desire to properly conclude the currently suspended season in its proper manner by playing all of the remaining fixtures when it is safe to do so.

The EFL have already alerted their clubs of their intention to play all remaining games within a 56-day time-frame during the summer months on the assumption that those games would be played behind closed doors.

The EFL have also suggested May 16 as a possible date for players to return to training.

And now UEFA wants their top European leagues to communicate their planned restart of competitions by no later May 25.

The same deadline applies for leagues wishing to explain ending their season early in ‘special circumstances’.

The Dutch leagues have already been ended early with results and placings effectively null and voided aside from being used to determine which teams qualify for Europe.

But in England the Premier League wish to fulfil their remaining games with the EFL following suit and it has been widely reported that football in the Premier League will resume on the week beginning June 8.

UEFA have set the deadline date of May 25 as European football's governing body will hold a Committee meeting on May 27 where they intend to reach a decision over whether this season’s Champions League and Europa League games can be completed in August.
