Leeds United have spent £40m plus add-ons to sign keeper James Trafford in a club record deal - so where do the bookies think the club will now finish in their second season back in the Premier League?
Leeds made signing a new no 1 a top priority ahead of the club’s second season back in the Premier League and England international keeper Trafford became the club’s top target one year on from his move to Manchester City.
Trafford, a former City youngster, re-joined City for £27m from Burnley last summer and looked set to be the club’s no 1 until the Manchester outfit also signed Gianluigi Donnarumma who then became first choice stopper between the sticks.
It meant Trafford was limited to making just four Premier League starts last season but the 23-year-old was City’s cup keeper in an FA Cup and League Cup double and the England-capped stopper has now joined Leeds as the most expensive British goalkeeper in history.
Trafford has become United’s third big signing of the summer following the arrivals of attacking midfielder Harry Wilson on a free transfer after his release from Fulham and capture of Bosnia and Herzegovina international centre-back Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo in a £34.1m deal.
Leeds managed a 14th-placed finish on last season’s Premier League return but the second year back in the top flight is often regarded as even more difficult than the first one back.
So where do the bookies think the Whites will now finish versus the likes of Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Everton?
