Why Harry Gray believes Sheffield Wednesday loan is 'perfect' amid Leeds United future hope
The 17-year-old Leeds United prospect will spend next season in League One with the Owls.
Out-on-loan Leeds United youngster Harry Gray believes the expectation of a League One promotion race will be ‘perfect’ for his development.
Gray joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan for the 2026/27 campaign earlier this month, his second temporary Elland Road exit. He experienced the trials and tribulations of a relegation scrap last season, scoring three goals for a struggling Rotherham United side who eventually dropped into League Two.
The 17-year-old is back in League One but for a team higher up the food chain, with Wednesday relegated from the Championship last season and eyeing a fresh start under new ownership. They are also aiming for an instant return to the second-tier, which brings a different kind of expectation.

“I think it's easy for me because I just enjoy it,” Gray told BBC Radio Sheffield while out in Budapest for pre-season. “I enjoy having the pressure to win games and perform well and score goals. I think if people are putting pressure on you, there's a good reason why they're doing it.
“I think Sheffield Wednesday is similar to Leeds in a way where this year, like Leeds were in the Championship, you're going to have to win every game, no matter what. And if you're not, you've not done your job. It's what I need, and it's perfect for me.”
Pressure isn’t something that seems to get the better of Gray, who appears supremely confident despite his young age. The teenager got off to a good start at Rotherham after joining in January, scoring twice in his first four games - a similarly quick start is the goal again at Wednesday.
“I'm always going to be confident, but that's always something playing in the back of your mind,” he said. “When you score your first goal, it's so much easier and it's a weight off your shoulders.”
Gray made his Leeds debut against Stoke City during the Championship promotion season and is keen to build on that sole appearance in the future. But with time on his side, the 17-year-old is in no rush with his immediate focus on performing for Wednesday.
“Yeah, obviously I'd love that, but who knows what's going to happen? Leeds could go win the league or whatever, be in the Champions League,” he added. “Then I guess I wouldn’t be playing, but who knows?
“A year is a long time in football. Right now, all I think about is doing the best I can this season and getting promoted. What happens next, that's nothing I can control yet. When it happens, it happens.”
