Leeds United fans ranked inside top 10 in England for football arrests

According to statistics released on Thursday, there were 1,542 arrests at football matches across the season with 1,822 banning orders in force.

Leeds United saw 39 fans arrested during the campaign, which is the eighth highest amongst all clubs in 2017/18, and ranked 21st in the banning orders table with 28 fans barred from attending Whites games on a permanent basis.

United have seen a steady decline since the 2015/16 campaign which saw 61 fans arrested, the third highest in English football that season, and 58 supporters banned from attending fixtures.

Overall, there has been a 6% decrease in both arrests and banning orders across the game from the 2016/17 season with a quarter of banning orders (460) issued between 1 August 2017 and 31 July 2018 put in place for the first time.

On average for every 100,000 fans that attended fixtures last season there were 3.5 arrests made, with the three most common offence types being public disorder (36%), violent disorder (20%) and pitch incursion (12%).

Of all competitions with 30 arrests or more, League Two had the highest arrest rate of 8.6 per 100,000 attendees, whilst European club competitions had the lowest arrest rate of 1.2 arrests per 100,000 attendees.

Championship side Birmingham City led the way seeing 95 fans arrested across the season, while Premier League team Newcastle United had the highest number of fans with banning orders in place with 79.
