Leeds United fans gather for second day of celebrations at Elland Road as Whites win Championship

An unexpected defeat for Brentford at Stoke meant Leeds were promoted as Championship winners without kicking a ball on Saturday afternoon.

Despite police warnings to stay away, fans began arriving at the ground a matter of hours after Friday night's clean-up was complete.

Bremner Square was once again filled with the smoke of blue and yellow flares, beeping car horns and Leeds chants.

Andy Clarke had come down with friend David Reed and a 'Champions flag' he bought two weeks ago.

"I thought it wasn't going to happen because of me," Andy, of Colton, said. "We've been through every permutation, every scenario in our heads, but now it's happened so quickly and it feels overwhelming."

He said it would be a "once in a lifetime experience" for his children, William and Charlotte, who were with him.

Ian Sopp drove over from Castleford to meet friends Karen and Paul Walton.

He said: "I'm in the south stand. Last year against Derby I remember kids this high crying their eyes out - now they can cry with pride."

Karen, of Bramley, added: "We are absolutely over the moon and really proud."

Lisse Koenen moved to Hunlset after falling in love with a Leeds lad last year and has since become a diehard whites fan.

"I fell in love with the city and thought I might as well move here," she said.

"This is really cool."

She was with her boyfriend and her dog, Momo, who wears a Leeds scarf before every game for good luck.

"There was only time that we forgot to do it and that was when we lost to Cardiff - so that's how Momo got involved."

Will Linley, Adam Brougham and Greg Masterman were making up for lost time as they couldn't make it to the ground on Friday.

Will, who drove from Derbyshire and picked up his friends for the pilgrimage, said: "We've been waiting a lifetime for this.

"We're of an age where we were just getting into Leeds United as we were finishing school and we've spent so much time and money and effort following them and we've had the best time of our lives.

"I don't care if we were in League One - we loved it, absolutely loved it.

"We do want to be dining at the top table where we belong, but the last two years in terms of atmosphere has been unbelievable."

Greg added: "Leeds are back."
