He paid tribute to Whites owner Andrea Radrizzani for leading the club back to the top flight for the first time in 16 years.

Unsurprisingly, Leeds United fans were quick to react to the news – here's what you said on social media:

On Twitter, @rico74leeds said: “Great, get the west stand rebuilt to mirror the east stand, we are going to be needing 50,000 seats when we are back.”

@LUFC_MattJ added: “Nice now buy De Paul.”

Similarly, @LUFCPeachey said: “So now we can buy Rodrigo De Paul? Nice.”

On Facebook, James Hutchinson declared: “Announce Rodrigo De Paul,” whilst Svein Erik Monsrud added: “So when are we signing Haaland and De Paul...”

Williams Mark predicted: “At some point, the 49ers will own us outright. Not saying its a bad thing as long as they continue the good work that Radz has started.”

Finally, Dave Galea explained: “Looks like some good investment I told you about last year, they raised the money last year, rebuild the stadium to get more seats, so then there’s more income, and market the brand abroad... don’t expect too many new signings, that’s not what they’re doing- although we need half a dozen decent players and a new manager.”
