Leeds United export and Elland Road favourite receives MBE at Windsor Castle after decorated 800-plus game career

The 37-year-old from Leeds was named on the honours list in June last year for his services to football and charity.

His playing career started in 2002 as he made his debut for Leeds in November 2002. He was sold to Newcastle United in 2004 after the Whites were relegated from the top flight.

He played 48 times for Leeds in the Premier League, scoring five goals. In total, he has played 607 times in the English top flight, scoring 55 goals and providing 87 assists. Only three players, Gareth Barry, Ryan Giggs and Frank Lampard, have more games in the Premier League to their names.

He has over 800 career appearances and was the second-youngest player ever to play in the Premier League when he made his debut for the Whites.

Milner joined Aston Villa permanently in 2008 before making the switch to Manchester City two years later. He joined Liverpool as a free agent in 2015 and has since made a staggering 319 appearances for the Merseyside club.

Away from the pitch he established the James Milner Foundation, a charity which aims to promote healthy recreation for young people in the UK by providing opportunities in sport with a focus on football, rugby and cricket.

It also provides financial assistance to young people in need of support with their health and education.

Milner is a three-time Premier League winner, having lifted the trophy twice with Man City and once with Liverpool. He claimed one League Cup and one FA Cup with Man City, repeating the feat with Liverpool last season as the Reds won a domestic double.

He also played a key role as the Reds lifted their sixth Champions League title in 2019. Milner hthe most assists in a single Champions League campaign, providing nine passes for his teammates in 2017-18 as Liverpool finished runners-up to Real Madrid.
