Leeds United pair make England squad but two snubbed as Thomas Tuchel confirms 27-man group

Four Leeds United players were in with a realistic shout of making Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has named two Leeds United players in his squad for the upcoming international break.

The Three Lions have four Nations League matches to look forward to during this extended, three-week break through September and October. Tuchel’s side kick off their League A Group 3 campaign against world champions Spain at Wembley on Saturday September 26 before facing Czechia in Prague the following Tuesday.

England then travel to Croatia on Saturday October 3 for a game behind closed doors before hosting Czechia at Wembley on Tuesday October 6. Tuchel named his 27-man squad for the four games on Friday morning and there is Leeds representation - but not as much as some expected.

After being awarded the second goal in Monday’s 4-1 win over Newcastle United following an appeal, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is on four for the season already and that fast start has been recognised. The 29-year-old missed out on the World Cup but returns to the England squad for these Nations League games.

James Trafford did go to the World Cup but not as a Leeds player, returning in July to complete his club-record £40million move from Manchester City. The 23-year-old has played every Premier League minute so far and harbours hope that regular football can help him become first-choice for his country.

There is no place in the 27-man squad for Jayden Bogle, however, who despite an outstanding 2025/26 campaign and a great start to the current season, is still waiting for a first England call-up. Similarly, versatile defender James Justin has also missed out on the chance to represent his country.

Speaking after Monday’s win over Newcastle, Daniel Farke hinted at his feelings surrounding potential call-ups for squad members with English passports. The Leeds boss was quizzed on Calvert-Lewin and Bogle.

Asked about Calvert-Lewin’s chances of a call-up, Farke said: “Definitely realistic. But there are a few other names on my mind with an English passport after a performance like this.”

Pressed on whether he was referring to a potential call-up for Bogle, the Leeds boss responded: “Yes, and he also has an English passport. Yes, I agree.”

Farke is due to speak with the media this afternoon ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace at Elland Road. The Whites manager will surely be asked again for his thoughts on the England squad and those who did or didn’t make it.
