Leeds United have donated all leftover food at Elland Road to local charity Holbeck Together amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The Whites have thrown their support behind the organisation - which was set up in 1992 to support older people in the local community - by delivering food packages in a bid to provide extra help for those most vulnerable in society during the pandemic.

Leeds have seen the current football season halted until April 30 at the earliest with the club opting to utilise the opportunity to help those in need during a time of great uncertainty for many.

Chief executive Angus Kinnear and stadium manager Rob Smyth helped drop off a variety of pies, meat, vegetables, desserts and other provisions that were set to be used for upcoming match days.

Elissa Newman, Chief Officer at Holbeck Together, said: “We can’t thank Angus Kinnear and the whole team at Leeds United enough for responding so quickly to our appeal for assistance in these unprecedented times.

“It makes a tremendous difference to have the support of Leeds United and it’s heartening to see their very real commitment to supporting the local South Leeds communities.

“Leeds United has literally emptied their food stocks to enable us to continue to deliver hot, nutritious meals, shopping and other vital supplies to those who can't make it out themselves, and it's been a real team effort with an outpouring of support."

Rob Smyth, General Manager at Leeds United, added: “To see what some people, not just in our local community but across the world are going through at this time is devastating and of course as a club we will try to help those that we can.

"To know that this food will help to support people that are really struggling at the moment is really important, we will continue to support them where possible during this difficult period.”
