Leeds United defender Oliver Casey has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with the club.

The Whites academy product has made 22 appearances for the Under-23s side this season as he continues his development at Thorp Arch.

The 19-year-old was handed his Whites first team debut against Huddersfield Town last December by Marcelo Bielsa, which remains his only showing for the senior side so far.

Casey has been a regular feature of the Argentine's matchday squads throughout the campaign however.

The Leeds-born youngster was also part of the United Under-18s side which won the Professional Development League North in 2017-18.

Bielsa revealed in March that he also sees Casey as an option in midfield, after filling in two roles against the Terriers.

"We consider Oliver Casey as a possible midfielder,"Bielsa said, "not a centre-back, and for us Pascal [Struijk] is a centre back, necessary to be in the group of 18 players.

"Pascal, [Barry] Douglas are defenders, Olly and [Jamie] Shackleton midfielders, [Gjanni] Alioski and [Tyler] Roberts attackers."

Earlier in the season, Bielsa included Casey in his list of players who could fill in at centre-half: "We have inside the group Berardi, Davis, Phillips, Pascal, Casey, we have a lot of players we've been working with for a long time.

"Casey, Pascal are younger, Davis has played with us and Phillips is an option in this sector and Berardi is the direct substitution."

His style of play has been compared to Brighton loanee Ben White - namely by former Leeds full-back Danny Mills.
