Leeds United defender makes comeback after 12 months sidelined by injury in European win

Leeds United defender Harvey Sutcliffe returned to the pitch 379 days after his last appearance for Michael Skubala’s Under-21s on Tuesday night as the youngsters defeated Hertha BSC II by three goals to one.

Leeds youngster Sutcliffe picked up a serious knee injury during last year’s Premier League 2 fixture away at Sunderland and had been ruled out for over a year before Tuesday evening’s comeback. The Keighley-born defender has played in both full-back positions during his time with Leeds’ 21s and was coming into a rich vein of form before his injury last October.

Head coach Skubala named the 20-year-old on the bench for Hertha BSC II’s visit to the LNER Community Stadium in the Premier League International Cup, choosing to introduce the versatile defender during the second half.

Sutcliffe completed 30 minutes, plus stoppages, from the bench, playing a part in Leeds’ eventual 3-1 victory. The young Whites’ next fixture is this Sunday at home to Liverpool in PL2.
