Former chairman Peter Ridsdale returned to Elland Road for the first time in three years in a new role with the Bluebirds, after stepping down in West Yorkshire in 2003 during the off-field chaos he had overseen at the club.

On the pitch the visitors struck through Willo Flood in the 83rd minute to earn the spoils with a 1-0 win but it was in the boardroom where the two sides clashed.

New United chairman Ken Bates and Ridsdale had a heated exchange before the latter was sent from the stadium just minutes after full-time.

Ridsdale claimed he had been banned for life by Leeds while Bates laughed off suggestions from his counterpart afterwards.

"I was told that I was no longer welcome at Elland Road today or any time in the future," said Ridsdale.

Bates denied the claims, saying: "It's a pack of lies, but I'm sure he (Ridsdale) needs the attention.

"We'll have to deal with the problems caused by previous regimes, problems that were out of our control.

"My words, in front of a number of witnesses, were that 'you're no longer welcome in the boardroom at Elland Road.'

"If he was ever banned from Elland Road, it would purely be for safety reasons."

The Whites suffered relegation to League One at the end of the 2006-07 campaign amid a backdrop of administration.
