Ex-Premier League boss drops 'inevitable' Daniel Farke sack verdict after latest Leeds United defeat
Daniel Farke watched his Leeds United side fall to a 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Former Premier League boss Tim Sherwood believes it is ‘inevitable’ Daniel Farke will be sacked by Leeds United but expects the German to remain in post for a difficult run of games.
Leeds have managed to reach the November international break without dropping into the relegation zone but four defeats in five leaves them just one point clear. Farke’s side lost 3-1 at 19th-placed Nottingham Forest on Sunday and received a mixed reaction when going over to thank supporters after the full-time whistle.
Early-season promise has faded following consecutive away defeats and a previously robust defence has just conceded six avoidable goals in those two games. Sunday was the first time Leeds have lost a league match under Farke after scoring first, having gone unbeaten over 53 previous occasions.
The Whites have now played every team in the bottom half and following the two-week international break, things get a lot trickier. They host an in-form Aston Villa at the end of next week before meetings with Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool take them into December.
Asked if Farke will be given a chance to take Leeds through that period, Sherwood told Sky Sports: “Yeah. If they’re going to react I think they’ll react after those fixtures. Who are they going to bring in? No one will come in with a magic wand to make those fixtures look a lot easier.
“It’s a very difficult run of games for them. I think we’re going to see a change of manager at Leeds, I really hope we don’t but I think we will. It’s inevitable we will because I don't think they're going to win any of those next four games.”
Daniel Farke’s Leeds United future assessed
Farke’s third attempt at the Premier League is going better than the previous two, with attempts at Norwich City ending in either relegation or an early-November sacking. Leeds are certainly more competitive than either Canaries side after spending just over £100million in the summer.
“It's a little bit different with Leeds [than at Norwich City],” Sherwood told Sky Sports. “They gave him the funds. I’m not sure what they've spent it on is good enough and I think they’ll go again if they can in January, which they're going to need to. But I think it's a difficult job.
“This one more than others, the pressure comes because he’s failed before in the Premier League. I think there's mitigating circumstances why he’s failed. I'm just trying to stick up for him a little bit because Norwich was always the best job in the Championship and the worst job in the Premier League.
“Who are you going to bring in? And is anyone going to have that instant impact? I always ask that question but from an owner's point of view, don't sit on your hands too long. I like owners who actually make decisions.”
