Daniel Farke provides Leeds United team news vs Brighton with Rodon, Gudmundsson, Bard, Bahoya updates
Daniel Farke’s Leeds United team news for Saturday’s second away game of the new Premier League season at Brighton.
Boss Daniel Farke has delivered news of a big Leeds United injury blow ahead of Saturday’s second away game of the new Premier League season at Brighton.
Farke had every player available to him for last weekend’s first home against Brentford although left back Gabi Gudmundsson was an unused substitute and Ilia Gruev not involved, the pair having only recently returning to training.
Clear first choice left back Gudmundsson suffered a hamstring injury in the pre-season friendly against Liverpool in America and was only set to return on the Friday before Brentford’s visit.
Gruev, meanwhile, had only recently returned to training following his recovery from a meniscus knee injury in April.
But Farke was dealt a fresh blow in the game itself Brentford itself as centre-back Joe Rodon injured his hamstring midway through the first half, the defender quickly pulling up and going to ground before being substituted.
Farke confirmed afterwards that Rodon suffered a hamstring injury and that checks would now be needed how long the Wales international ace would be out for.
Farke held his pre-Brighton press conference on Thursday afternoon where he revealed that Rodon had suffered a serious hamstring injury and was now looking at eight to ten weeks out.
On Rodon, Farke said: “Bad news for him, a serious hamstring injury. He will be out for eight to 10 weeks. Definitely not playing before the next international break, A big blow for us because he’s a key player but it’s football sometimes.”
Farke also gave an update on Gudmundsson plus deadline day signings Melvin Bard and Jean-Matteo Bahoya - all of whom are available this weekend.
Bard and Bahoya joined the Whites on Tuesday’s final day of the summer window on loan deals with permanent options, French left back Bard arriving from Nice and France under-21s winger Bahoya signing from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal that was finally completed at 12.45am on Wednesday morning.
Speaking on Thursday, Farke said both players would have a chance of featuring this weekend.
“Yes they are eligible,” said the Whites boss.
“They trained with us and depending on next days there is a chance for them to be in the squad.”
Of Gudmundsson, Farke said: “With Gabi this week was important for him. He was injured before he went to the World Cup and during pre-season which was not ideal. But a full training week was very beneficial and he is moving closer. We’ll take a late decision but he’s a key player for us.”
