Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa pays emotional tribute to Kalvin Phillips' 'Granny Val'

Val Crosby became a popular figure among Leeds fans thanks to her starring role in the Amazon documentary about the Whites.

Leeds stalwart Stuart Dallas held up a shirt with 'Granny Val' on the back of it after he scored in Leeds' win over the Saints and Bielsa lamented her loss after the game.

"For us Phillips is a player that we love a lot," he said.

"He's an emblem of Leeds United. After we got promoted, the figure of Kalvin's grandmother became known to the public and we started to all care about her.

"Kalvin had many motives of why he loved her so much. She was a very charismatic and very attractive person to those who didn't know her. We regret deeply she's no longer with us. And of course the loss that it means for Kalvin and for all his family."

Phillips, currently out injured, broke the sad news last Thursday on his Instagram page.

"I am heartbroken to say that my grandma Val passed away this morning, I can’t put into words what you are to me and my family - the absolute Queen of our hearts," he wrote.

"I just know how fortunate I was to have you in my life, she was an unforgettable person as I’m sure many of you know.

"I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for you and the heartbreak I feel now is incomparable, I’m just glad the world got to see how much you mean to me, and you got to experience how much of an impact you made on me and also other people from around the world which is something you always deserved.

"Rest in peace Gran, you will forever be in my heart. I love you."
