Punter wins £14K on bet including Leeds United and Arsenal's U21s

A lucky punter won a massive £14K bet on Tuesday night, which included Leeds United and Arsenal under-21s in the EFL Trophy.

A football fan from Oldbury, West Midlands, won their six-fold accumulator after putting £10 down, which was so unlikely that it returned £14,885,21.

The six matches were spread across Tuesday night’s EFL Trophy and National League games. The punter needed Accrington Stanley and Cardiff City to beat Leeds United Under-21s and Arsenal Under-21s, respectively, and AFC Wimbledon, Forest Green and York to win all their games.

Leeds United’s youth team fell to a 3-2 loss to Cardiff but exciting prospect Harry Gray did bag a brace to show his credentials against more senior opposition.

The final result needed from the bet was Peterborough to beat Crawley Town, which looked for all the world like it was going to let down this fan from winning big. However, in the dying moments of the match, The Posh found the winner that saw this lucky punter win over £14K in the 94th minute.

After the result came through, spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said, “There’s nothing better than a last-minute winner to make a night unforgettable, and this Oldbury customer’s £10 in-shop bet turning into £14,885.21 is a perfect example of that.

“To have everything riding on Peterborough finding a stoppage time goal, and for Donay O'Brien-Brady to score in the final seconds to bring home the six-fold acca is the stuff dreams are made of.

“It was a great night of EFL Trophy and National League action across the board, but that late Peterborough strike will be one this customer remembers for a very long time.”

Leeds United’s 3-2 loss to Accrington Stanley sees them knocked out of the EFL Trophy in a competition that sees League One and League Two clubs face Under-21 teams from the Premier League and Championship.

But a positive will be Gray’s performance and his ability to show he is able to compete against more experienced players, and he could be seen more prominently in the first team set-up in the not-too-distant future.
