The French outlet suggest the 23-year-old is a free agent, which could be good news for Leeds. They brought him in on loan from RB Leipzig, with an obligation to buy should they earn promotion, in the January transfer window. But the high profile move did not pan out as any of the parties anticipated. A calf issue kept him out of action and then he struggled to regain sufficient fitness to meet the demands of life at Thorp Arch, so was no longer in consideration for Marcelo Bielsa's first team. The Argentine said it was the most 'convenient' thing that Augustin returned to his parent club.

Leeds went on to win the Championship and with it promotion to the Premier League, but were delayed in doing so by the COVID-19 pandemic that brought football to a standstill. Leipzig have threatened legal action, insisting the obligation still stands, regardless of when Leeds clinched promotion.

Commercial sporting director Florian Scholz told Spor Buzzer they would pursue the Whites for the money they believe is owed.

"The legal situation is clear," Scholz said. "Leeds is currently in the process of spending a lot of money on the transfer market but does not stand by its contractual obligations. We are ready to take further steps.”

Augustin has not returned to Yorkshire and his social media activity has shown him training alone in France with little news on how the situation would be resolved until today's reports of a move to Nantes.
