Leeds United and Arsenal condemn vile social media abuse aimed at Gjanni Alioski and Nicolas Pepe

LEEDS United say they will not tolerate the abuse directed at Gjanni Alioski and Nicolas Pepe on social media after Sunday's Premier League clash against Arsenal at Elland Road.

Pepe was shown a straight red card after dropping his head into Alioski's face following an altercation between the duo with the incident picked up by VAR and referee Anthony Taylor then giving Pepe his marching orders in the 51st minute of the 0-0 draw.

A statement released by Leeds United on Monday morning read: "The vile abuse directed at Ezgjan Alioski and Nicolas Pepe on social media after yesterday’s Premier League game with Arsenal will not be tolerated by Leeds United.

"We will work closely with the police and the footballing authorities to ensure those responsible are identified and punished."

A statement released by Arsenal read: "We utterly condemn the vile abuse directed at Nicolas Pepe and Ezgjan Alioski on social media following our match against Leeds United.

"This is completely unacceptable and we will be working with the police and authorities to do everything we can to trace and prosecute the culprits."
